Welcome to Opening Night For CDG

Dear Parents,

Thank you for bringing your child to Children Desiring God this fall and welcome to our blog. The wise parent pours as much sound biblical teaching into their child as possible in these early years. We want very much to help you do that. This curriculum is been carefully designed to lift your child’s eyes from a Man-centered emphasis to a God-centered emphasis. Every lesson is designed to instill faith by revealing the character of our Lord.

We also aim to come alongside of you in helping your child form godly habits that he or she will continue all his life – habits like reading the Word and praying daily, memorizing Scripture, serving others, sharing the Gospel and reading books by great theologians (many of whom have written children’s books). We encourage these habits with a “badge” award system. We never want the child to value the badge or the praise of men more than the Word, so we have been careful and purposeful about the way we have implemented this system.

Your 4- or 5-year-old will be learning the Old Testament this year in a study entitled He Established a Testimony. This two-year overview emphasizes how all of Scripture points to Christ. Year One begins with our joyful Triune God creating all things from nothing for our joy and His glory. We teach through the Scriptures chronologically and include a number of stories that Sunday School curriculums typically skip, such as the bronze serpent, an idol called Dagon and Uzzah’s encounter with the holiness of God. We memorize Scriptures by singing them to familiar tunes and play games that reinforce the biblical principles taught. We always have a wonderful time and God has really blessed these evenings that we set aside for Him.
