Welcome to Children Desiring God

Thank you for bringing your child to Children Desiring God! We will be studying God’s Word together this year, beginning with His deliverance of the Hebrew slaves through Moses. Our study in the four- and five-year-old class is entitled He Established a Testimony, and our goal is to teach your child that the Old Testament is not primarily a series of stories about moral lessons on behavior. We want your child to see that the Old Testament is primarily about God revealing who He is, especially who He is as Savior and Redeemer of His people. All of Scripture points to Jesus.

We will work our way chronologically through the Old Testament, covering many stories that are not usually taught in Sunday School. In class, we will memorize verses, play games to reinforce our lessons and make a book together exploring God’s glorious character as revealed in the Ten Commandments. Our role is to come alongside of you, the parent, and help you in your role as spiritual leader for your child. We recognize that God has given you the privilege and responsibility for training up these eternal souls, and we are honored to help you in this task. We offer a badge system to encourage the children to establish the spiritual disciplines at home – such as Bible memory work, prayer and study – disciplines which God uses to mature and make His people wise, whatever their age. As part of the badge system, we provide a list of books that will help your child to think deeply about the overarching story of the Bible: God redeeming needy people who can’t save themselves. The badges are great motivators, but we are always careful to remind the children that the real reward is knowing God more fully and, in doing so, becoming more like Him. I look forward to seeing Him grow your children and to serving you and your family.
