This week we heard how God reunited Joseph to his brothers and graciously gave him understanding to see that it was not the brothers' evil deed that sent him to slavery in Egypt -- but it was God. "God sent me before you to preserve life... to preserve for you a remnant on earth and to keep alive for you many survivors. So it was not you who sent me here, but God." (Genesis 45:5-8) We really emphasized that the Lord is all-powerful, and all that happens is by His design, even the things that look bad. We used a piece of embroidery to show that sometimes all we can see is the knots and strings that hang down on the backside, and it looks ugly to us -- but that is what it takes to make a beautiful embroidered picture on the other side. God is faithful and we can trust that He is making of our lives and all of history a beautiful masterpiece.
We reviewed Psalm 121:5-6 by singing it to the tune of "Joy to the World" as we played a version of musical chairs.
In worship time, we sang "My God is So Great," and Cherie would stop at certain points and surprise the children by just having them sing alone.
We have also been teaching the children four parts of prayer by regularly going over these short phrases in our prayer time: I love you (adoration); I'm sorry (confession); thank you (thanksgiving) and please (petition). Prayer time is very sweet in this class.
